Silverstein 021914 CM 0399csSPRINGFIELD—State Senator Ira I. Silverstein (D-8) had the following reactions to Gov. Rauner’s State of the State speech:

“Governor Rauner’s agenda the past three years sought to take us backward and it appears he wants to walk back progress we made in stability with last year’s budget, reducing our bill backlog and reforming our state’s antiquated education funding formula. After three years of inflexible opposition, it’s time for him to move forward with us to further our progress rather than double down on his already failed agenda.

“Families, senior citizens, businesses and universities in my district are looking to us for more forward progress this year and I intend to do all I can to see that happen. Child care assistance, in-home care for seniors, incentives for small businesses and MAP grant funding for university students deserve his attention, rather than signing leases for file storage or turning over staff in his office.

“Seeking to undo the progress we made last year when we assumed the leadership role won’t work. We need him to finally step up and do his job instead of trying to block us in solving problems.”
